This look is demanding with time, greedy with fabric, and rife with symbolism.

The unnecessary amount of pockets on this coat is a symbol of the un-functional nature of excess.

The filagree motif, foil printed, is a direct motif taken from the extravagant architectural details seen in ‘Petit Château,’ a mansion built in the 1880’s, where Mrs. W. K. Vanderbilt hosted her lavish fancy dress ball in 1883.

The Gilded Age, embodied in theory by this unnecessarily luxurious and ridiculously over the top event, can be considered one of the most greedy historical periods, hence the extracted motif.

The digital print for the lining for this coat and the sculpted motifs are inspired by my two favourite symbols of greed, a bandaid and a watch.

Both alluding to the most self involved money driven characters seen in, arguably the best film ever made.
